The City of Owen Sound, in partnership with O2 Planning and Design, is preparing a River District Streetscape Renewal Plan. The Plan will identify opportunities to create more attractive, comfortable, and vibrant streets and public spaces that support the River District as Owen Sound's primary commercial area.
The focus of the Plan is on streetscape infrastructure and improvements within the public realm, including seating, landscaping, wayfinding, lighting, public art, pedestrian amenities, and other features that enhance the experience of downtown streets and public spaces. The streetscape is the space between the curb and adjacent property line, commonly referred to as the sidewalk and furnishing or planting zone, as well as key public space connections throughout the River District.
This project is one part of a broader set of initiatives the City is undertaking to strengthen downtown Owen Sound, improve safety and vibrancy, and support economic growth. While the Streetscape Renewal Plan focuses on the design and improvement of public streets and spaces, the River District Action Plan Updates is looking at broader priorities related to branding, management, promotion and overall experience of the River District.
