Update to Project (November 2025):

Thank you to all who took part in providing valuable feedback on this project.

A report was taken to City Council in October. Click here to view or read the report to Council on this topic.

Council approved renovating the Farmers’ Market washroom, adding the $75,000 project to the capital plan (funded by reserves) with work to be finished in 2026. They noted that the yearly operating cost of about $12,000–$15,000 will be included in the 2026 budget and covered by Municipal Accommodation Tax revenue. Staff will report back each year on how the washroom is operating, and the ongoing maintenance will fall under Community Services.

Stay tuned to this project page for updates on renovation progress in Spring/Summer 2026!

Background of project (October 2025):

The City of Owen Sound is exploring the potential installation of a standalone public washroom in the River District, and we want to hear from you. At the request of City Council, a report will be prepared on this possibility. Community engagement, including your input through this short survey, will play a key role in informing the report.

Your input is essential in helping us understand:
- Whether there is a need or desire for a standalone public washroom
- What type of facility would be most appropriate, and design/location considerations
- What hours of operation would best serve the community
- What benefits or concerns do you foresee
- Whether existing businesses already provide washroom access

This engagement is around the potential of adding a standalone public washroom(s) in the River District. To view existing public washrooms in the River District, click here (scroll to bottom of Warming Centres page).

👉 A standalone public washroom in the River District means a washroom building that isn’t inside another facility (like a restaurant, store, or library). It’s a dedicated, city-provided washroom space that anyone can access when visiting the River District.
