Owen Sound Water Meter Replacement Project

The majority of the water meters currently installed in Owen Sound’s residential properties are at the end of their lifespan. The City is undertaking a mass replacement project to replace these old meters with new ones and upgrade the technology in the meter transmission system to reduce the time required to read them. This upgraded technology will allow residents to be more aware of their water consumption and possible leaks and will facilitate the eventual transition to monthly billing.

The new system automatically uploads meter reads every 15 minutes. When paired with the new software, Neptune 360, customers will be able to create an account to view their usage and set automatic alerts. Neptune 360 will be available to customers with the next step of implementation, once monthly billing is fully implemented and the system has been monitored to ensure it is meeting expectations. This will be reviewed once the installations of all new water meters are complete later this year.

All eligible homeowners will be contacted by Neptune, so no need to do anything on your end right now.
Neptune is still in the process of releasing accounts and therefore some residents have not yet received letters, but will be in the future depending on their location within the City and the release territory that Neptune has placed them in.

If you have received letters from Neptune for the water meter project, please make an appointment with them. They may only require retrofitting the water meter that you have currently. -

The person had a heavy accent and was speak8ng very quickly. My parents are 90+ and asked for the person to slow down a couple times. As it turns out, this person sent two males to my parents house and when I intercepted them, it was clear that they were only there to sell/lease water heaters. It appears that these individuals know about the new metered and are trying to glean people to believe that these two things are tied together. Neptune is initially contacting residents via letters in the mail. Phone calls or texts from Neptune will only come from this number: 1-800-667-4387. Text messages would only be sent once an appointment has been booked (not to initiate it).Any other calls/texts would be fraudulent, and we’d advise residents to follow up with Police in that case.

Scott McNeil-Smith asked 18 days agoGreat question! Neptune is sending out the letters in batches by area and by whether the meter is expected to be a retrofit or a full replacement. They have been undertaking the installations for approximately 2 months at this point and are approximately 30% complete. Once your zone is released (letters sent out), you can book your appointment up to 2-3 weeks in advance, so you can book at a time that fits your schedule (or gives you time to plan around).

The transmission system operates on the same type of radio frequency as a broadband radio system, similar to the radio waves already present in the air from entertainment radio stations.
