<h2 class="fr-text-bordered">The City values the feedback and opinions of its residents. The City&#39;s Strategic Plan identifies Collaborative City as a priority to manage and improve relationships. A key result within the priority is to develop and implement an engagement framework policy and tools to increase public input on projects/initiatives by June 2022.&nbsp;</h2><p>&nbsp;</p><p>A comprehensive review will enable the City to assess how the organization&rsquo;s public engagement is occurring, current practices and policies, consistencies, gaps, challenges, and potential improvements, which will inform the development of a formalized community engagement framework.</p><p>By completing a comprehensive community engagement review, the City can develop a formal framework that:&nbsp;</p><ul><li>Upholds the view that involvement of the community and key stakeholders in planning and decision making for the City is fundamental to more effective governance&nbsp;</li><li>Provides direction and guidance to ensure that the City&rsquo;s responsibility to communicate, consult and engage the community consistently is fulfilled; and&nbsp;</li><li>Addresses any existing gaps.&nbsp;</li></ul><h2>Objectives</h2><ul><li>Identifying clear, consistent guidelines for staff, Council and the public to facilitate a coordinated approach to community engagement&nbsp;</li><li>Informing the community about the City&rsquo;s approach to consultation and engagement activities so that citizens know what to expect&nbsp;</li><li>Facilitating Council decision-making that is open, transparent, responsive, and accountable to the community.&nbsp;</li></ul><p class="fr-text-spaced" style="text-align: center;"><strong>Effective engagement builds trust and strengthens the connection between the City, Council, and residents.</strong></p>

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategy

<h2>The current Kelso Beach Master Plan, completed in 2010, has reached maturity and many of the recommendations have been implemented. Remaining recommendations will be considered, drawing on the Recreation parks and Facilities Master Plan, Recreation Trails Master Plan, stakeholder consultation, the City&rsquo;s current 10 year capital forecast and staff input, a new plan is to be completed in-house to guide decision making related to the regional park for the next decade.</h2><p>Local Indigenous peoples used the current day site of KBP as a seasonal village, allowing access the rich fishing grounds of Great Sturgeon Bay (Georgian Bay today). The City has worked hand in hand with local indigenous initiatives to recognize the history of Kelso Beach at Nawash Park, and construct permanent features such as sculptures that are points of interest on the self guided walking is medicine tour, and the Githe Namewikwedong Reconciliation Garden. &nbsp;</p>

<h2 class="fr-text-bordered">The Waste Management Strategy will place an emphasis on waste reduction, reuse, and recycling activities that are environmentally sustainable and cost-effective.</h2><p>The strategy will also work to mitigate climate change impacts under the current waste management system and find solutions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Waste Management is one area that can have a direct impact on Climate Action at the municipal level.</p>
