Playground Replacements – Owen Heights Park & Comm-R-Ette Park
As part of our commitment to maintaining and enhancing community spaces, the City of Owen Sound will be replacing two of our local playgrounds. We believe that these upgrades will enrich our community and enhance the quality of life for our residents.
Playground Replacements at Owen Heights Park and Comm-R-Ette Park
Playgrounds are more than just a place for children to play! They are vital components of a community that foster:
- Physical Health: Encouraging children to engage in physical activities, thus promoting fitness and healthy development.
- Social Skills: Offering a space for children to interact, share, and build friendships, enhancing their communication skills.
- Creative Play: Providing diverse equipment and natural elements that stimulate creativity and imagination in children.
- Community Building: Creating a gathering place for families, strengthening community ties and engagement.
Together, let's create playgrounds that are not just play spaces, but the heartbeats of our community.
November 25 Playground Progress Update:
At Comm-R-Ette Park, playground components are now built and in place, with asphalt and concrete work scheduled for this week. Owen Heights Park isn’t far behind, coming along nicely.
Thank you to everyone who shared feedback at the Spring Open House or through the online survey. Your input helped shape these neighbourhood play spaces, and we’re excited to see them come to life!

June 2, 2026 Playground Progress Update:
With the install of new playground equipment last fall, we know how excited families and neighbours are to start enjoying them, and we truly appreciate your patience. Our priority is to ensure that when these spaces open, they are safe, accessible, and built to last.
Beyond the play structures themselves, each site was thoughtfully planned to include accessible pathways, gathering spaces, seating areas, and other features that make these parks welcoming and usable for everyone. After a long winter and reassessment in the spring, it became clear that some of the completed work did not meet the standards required for safety, durability, and accessibility.
Work on the playground upgrades is continuing to be sure it is done properly. Crews are returning to complete the projects throughout the month of June, including base preparation, concrete forming and pouring, installation of concrete pads and asphalt walkways, followed by site grading and cleanup. We expect these playgrounds to be open once again by the end of June or early July.
The playground will remain closed while this work is underway to help ensure the site is safe and ready for the community to enjoy once complete. Thank you for your continued patience as these improvements move forward.
